Today is the day Pat and I start a new adventure, traveling around the South Island New Zealand.
We woke up bright and early to take the shuttle bus from our motel to Mighty Campers to pick up what will be our home for the next 14 days. After filling out the forms we packed the camper with our belongings, had a quick breakfast and grocery shop and we were on the road to our first destination, Arthurs Pass. I feel like a kid in a candy store, packed into this huge camper surrounded by snow capped mountains.
Before heading on our little trek to The Devils Punchbowl we made sandwiches in hope it would give us energy after having very little sleep. Unfortunately that sandwich didn’t gain me any energy, I must admit I was definitely on struggle street. One foot in front of the other and we’d made it and oh… it was definitely worth the little trek it was.
After snapping away with our cameras we jumped over the fence and followed a trail further up to the base of the waterfall. We couldn’t escape a drenching while we got up close and personal with The Devils Punchbowl, but it was absolutely incredible! Talk about feeling alive.
It was time for us to head back to our camper to make tracks to Greymouth, for our first nights sleep in our camper. After several stops along the way, we made it to camp. Greymouth was not what I expected but none the less we could hear waves crashing while we fell asleep. Today has flown by and I already can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
